Parasites are microorganisms that live of of another organism, called a host, to survive. Sometimes parasites do not harm the host. This is called commensalism when one organism benefits and the other is unharmed. Mutualism is when both organisms benefit. Parasitism is when the parasite benefits at the expense of the host.
Malaria is one of the most deadliest diseases caused by a parasite. Some other parasitic infections are Trichomoniasis, Giardiasis, Cryptosporidiosis, and Toxoplamosis. The three types of organisms that cause parasitic infections are protozoa, helminths, and ectoparasites. Protozoa, single celled organisms that live and multiply in humans, cause giardiasis and other infections. Helminths, multi-celled organisms that can live alone or in a human, usually take the form of worms, such as flatworms, tapeworms, ringworms, and roundworms. Ectoparasites are multi-celled organisms that live in or feed off of the skin of humans. They are insects, such as mosquitos, fleas, ticks, and mites. How do I prevent Parasitic disease?
How do I treat Parasitic diseases? Not every disease can be treated. Trichomoniasis can be treated with antibiotics and medications along with Giardiasis and Cryptosporidiosis. Toxoplamosis is not usually treated with anything unless it is severe and extended. Ask your doctor for information of what to take for any diseases. Sources: "Parasitic Infections."
